Surviving the Trip

Getting information from here to there, intact.

Every idea has to survive the channel

Every idea has to survive the trip from here to there, and the trip is noisy. Between the sender and the receiver sits a channel that adds static, drops pieces, and sometimes rewrites them.

This corner of Numbers follows information across those noisy channels — encoding, redundancy, error correction — and watches what makes a message arrive intact when the medium is trying to corrupt it.

Reference entries are on the way. Until then, remember that reliable communication is mostly clever repetition.
