What Engineers Trust: Specs, Benchmarks, and Immediate Utility

Abstract

Explain the engineer "trust stack" and why central-route cues dominate: technical specificity, procedural detail, and formal tone. Ground it in the NVIDIA developer ecosystem.

Engineers processing product communication follow what persuasion researchers call the "central route"—they engage deeply with the substantive claims, evaluate the evidence, and form judgments based on the quality of the argument rather than peripheral cues like visual design or spokesperson appeal. This means that technical specificity, reproducible benchmarks, and immediately applicable implementation details are not just nice to have—they are the primary trust-building mechanism.

NVIDIA's developer communications reflect this understanding. The developer zone documentation, SDK reference materials, and technical blog posts are written with an implicit assumption that the reader will check the claims, run the benchmarks, and try the implementation. Vagueness is a credibility liability.
